Anatomy Of A Cameo
Pictured above is Tony (the show’s writers’ assistant), who portrayed “Oakland Tony” in the episode Old Man Ders. You might also recognize him as the creep in the gymnasium from To Friend A Predator in season 1:
As you may have noticed, neither cameo really “fits” into the episode in a specific way. The ideas for the cameos originated because the guys and showrunner, Kevin Etten, wanted Tony to dress up in ridiculous, embarrassing outfits and play a creep in at least one episode per season.
(editor’s note - Oakland Tony is actually from Berkeley)
Anatomy Of A Cameo
Meet Naomi’s boyfriend:
His name is Gil (in the episode and in real life) and he’s a friend of the show. Gil was our liaison at Comedy Central and was a fixture on set. We waited until the last minute to cast the role of Naomi’s boyfriend and then we all decided that it would be cool to have Gil to do it. So, that’s what we did.
Gil is a very funny guy and you can follow him on twitter at:
Anatomy of a Cameo: The Paramedic
Script Coordinator Steven White was plucked out of a Production Meeting to play the hard-hitting character “Paramedic” in the Season 1 episode In the Line of Getting Fired. Struggling actors around Hollywood, nay, the world, hate him.
In truth, the beard he grew got him cast; the voice or any speaking roll to follow was just an afterthought. He could say “About $900…” clearly enough to not get fired on the spot.
When it came time to film, Production was fighting the sun at the end of the day and needed someone to hit their mark, say their line, and get the hell out of there. Mr. White did just that, and for that the Producers were eternally grateful. Well, grateful through the editing process, at least.
Shortly after shooting, Mr. White asked the guys if the Paramedic might return in Season 2; he was told his character crashed his ambulance and supposedly died in a fiery wreck moments after dropping Blake off at the hospital. But his body was never found…
